Find something new to do

Use your downtime to try something new – locally or further afield.

Time off the farm isn’t about flash holidays. It’s about doing the things you enjoy. Here’s what other farmers told us they like doing in their time off:

  • camping
  • visiting friends and family
  • borrowing a friend’s holiday bach for the weekend
  • fishing
  • golf
  • squash
  • hunting
  • hosting a barbecue
  • attending a wedding or 21st
  • going to Fieldays and Ag Shows
  • attending farming conferences
  • watching a live rugby game
  • going to the beach
  • tramping in the bush
  • walking
  • picnics
  • signing up for a holiday club
  • turning off the phone
  • walking
  • cycling

“Have a regular outing where all thoughts about farming and business can be forgotten for a short time. For me, it is going to a weekly cycle race.” Male sheep/beef farm owner, 60–69, Canterbury
