The Farmstrong Challenge encourages rural communities across NZ to be more active to support a healthier lifestyle which in turn supports your wellbeing (particularly in tough times) and how you farm. To do this we set a goal of the rural community collectively walking, running or cycling 4m km’s in the 12 months from July 2015. The challenge was created to give rural communities a goal to work towards before and after the Farmstrong Fit4Farming Cycle tour takes place in 2016.
The Farmstrong Fit4Farming Cycle Tour
The Farmstrong Fit4Farming Cycle tour is a group of 20 riders that will travel the length of the country from Ngatea to Invercargill from 18 March to 2 April 2016 to raise awareness of the importance of farmers looking after their physical health and how this supports them to live well and farm well. The touring peloton will ride a combined 30,000km (excluding all their preparation km’s) towards the Farmstrong Challenge goal of 4m km by July 2016.
Along with Farmstrong, the Fit4Farming Cycle Tour is proudly supported by TOYOTA NZ, NORWOOD FARM MACHINERY, ANZCO FOODS and B+LNZ . Members of these organisations will be donning their cycle kits and joining the peloton in support of this initiative, so why not join them and get involved yourself? The tour will include five ‘Regional Event Days’ where you can also participate. These will offer walking, running and riding activities along with a picnic-style gathering for the community to connect and enjoy some time away from the farm.
Remember, if cycling is not for you, you can still participate in the Farmstrong Challenge by walking or running your km’s.
